Today’s Monday Mindset: Love What Is
This past weekend I was working with a longtime NBA player who was going through a difficult situation. To help him through this situation, I was helping to lend perspective.
I think the perspective of loving what is can be helpful if you’re going through a frustration, a disappointment, a discouragement, something you’re angry about, something you’re worried or anxious about.
It’s so easy to lose our joy and to let those things rob us of our joy. Whether you’re a player going through a tough time, a coach going through a difficult circumstance, or a parent, business owner, employee, no matter what it is, there are things that can rob us of our joy.
What does it mean to love what is? It means to accept the present moment, to accept the present challenge, and to love what is means to actually look for either the growth in it, how can you grow, what’s the opportunity for you to grow?
Maybe you’re just growing in grit and resilience, but there’s something for you to grow in. Or there’s something good in it. Something good that’s going to be for your good or for somebody else’s good, or a good outcome that might arise. Or a gratitude, something that even though you can’t find anything good, even though you can’t figure out how you’re going to grow, that there’s actually something you can be grateful for.
Maybe it’s just that you still have the breath of life. You’re still alive and on the planet. Either find something that’s good, something a way you can grow, or something you can be grateful for. If you do that, then you’ll be able to love what is.
To love what is, is not mutually exclusive and does not stop you from wanting more for tomorrow, or desiring a different outcome or a better outcome in the future.
Just choose to love what is by accepting today, wanting more for tomorrow, and the best way to accept today is to look for the growth, look for the good, and look for the gratitude.
